Sony 2012 Android smartphone models, pricing leaked

With Sony now in full control over its mobile division, the electronics giant has come out with both guns blazing. Its first smartphones free of Ericsson branding have burst onto the scene with blazing fast 1.5GHz processors, snappy styling, and tight integration with Sony’s home theater products. Thanks to a leaked roadmap, it now looks like Sony is going to offer up plenty of additional models in 2012 to complement the Xperia S, the beastly 4.6-inch Ion, and Acro HD.
The document was leaked from Sony’s office in India, and it shows eleven unannounced models scheduled for launch in the next eight months. Estimated street prices are listed too, and they run anywhere from $180 to $720 — which seems more like tablet pricing. Three of the models listed are slated for April launches, which lines up nicely with Mobile World Congress 2012. That event takes place in Barcelona from February 27th to March 1st, and Sony has unveiled plenty of hardware there before. In 2011, they showed off the Xperia Arc, Play, Neo, and Pro.
Both the Nypon and Kumquat have been spotted before, albeit in a blurry group photo. The Nypon looks to be a more humble version of the Xperia S, with a smaller screen and Sony-Ericsson developed NovaThor U8500 processor. The Kumquat is also expected to run a NovaThor chip and it will feature a 3.5-inch display — likely aimed at entry-level users with its $335 price tag.
It’s important to note that all the phones listed here will reportedly run Android. Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg stated late last year that Windows phone “isn’t as good as Android,” and with Sony and Microsoft at odds over the requisite Xbox Live integration in their OS it’s very possible that Sony will happily keep producing Android phones that integrate with their own hardware and services.
